It was quite a climb!

Worth the climb though

Never mind the secret bunker - this is more like it!

While in Manchester we went by tram from the city centre to Media City

Secret Bunker 2

The place was absolutely packed with exhibits

One of the many display cabinets in the huge complex

Lots of flashing lights and ominous beeps and bleeps

For broadcasting to the nation in the event of nuclear attack

TV studio control room

"Alert State" boards

All rather spooky, eerie and a bit frightening

"Secret Bunker" (?) 1

We've been past this sign on the canal several times but this time we thought we would investigate.

Another sign to the 'secret' bunker

Are we nearly there yet?

Not much of a secret so far?

Highgate Cemetery - East

This is the side anyone can get into but it will cost you £4

Karl Marx

Something different. The name is "Thornton"

Malcolm McLaren

Bit hard to see but the simple cut-outs just say "DEAD"

Another unusual design

Bruce Reynolds - a bit of a brutal headstone?

Highgate Cemeteries - Lunchtime

On climbing the very steep hill to Highgate village you pass this very modern house/office

Then...you come to The Angel, which is a marvellous hostelry

As you can see, Graham Chapman of Monty Python fame, "Drank here often and copiously"

Post 1200 !

A respite between Highgate's West cemetery and the East cemetery.
Saffie insisted on writing post 1200.
Flopping about helps!

Finished

This is the genuine screenshot of her efforts.
I DO always tell you when something's a bit 'tongue in cheek'
This is absolutely true.

Tired now

Now to sorting out this wrapping paper

"Normal" service will be resumed next time, with Highgate East...

Highgate Cemetery West - 2

Some of the graves are very simple

Lots of wild flowers - and wild garlic

Family tombs

This is the grave of an early showman who ran a travelling zoo.
This lion (I should have remembered the man's name and the lion's name) was apparently so tame that children took rides on his back

A brand new tomb by the main entrance
