Medieval Dunstable

A few weeks ago, Dunstable Town Council put on a "Medieval Dunstable" weekend.
We went along to get some ideas in case we wanted to stage a similar - but smaller! - event at our museum

This is what you need to draw attention to the event

This was cloth dying

Ah - here it is...

Warwickshire Ring - Birmingham

Heading in to Birmingham

The famous 'roundabout' at Old Junction Turn.
It's actually a ventilation shaft for the railway below

One of the many bars on the waterfront

Entering Gas Street Basin

Our mooring - and free hotel room - right in the centre.
Marvellous

Hawkesbury Junction

Here we came down the Oxford Canal on the right, did a full U-turn under the bridge I'm standing on and went up the Coventry Canal.

Hawkesbury Junction is home to the much-photographed "Greyhound" pub

The Greyhound taken through the bridge I was standing on, as we completed the turn and headed up the Coventry Canal.
We MAY have moored up shortly after this to investigate the pub.

Here's a trip boat with disabled people from Nuneaton arriving for lunch.

Warwickshire Ring - Leamington Spa 2

This is the modern glasshouse in the Jephson Gardens we saw in the last posting.

First laid out in 1831 as informal riverside walks along the River Leam, the original Newbold Gardens were developed into formal pleasure grounds after 1846 in honour of Dr Henry Jephson, who had promoted the town as a spa. Jephson Gardens gained renown for its band concerts, archery and tennis, illuminations, trees and flowers. It is listed as Grade II on the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens.

We didn't know what to expect when we stopped at Leamington Spa - but we were very pleasantly surprised.
This is the River Leam.

These are the Jephson Gardens

A very impressive display.
