Geddington 2

Geddington has one of the last remaining Eleanor Crosses

This appears to be an old 'lock-up'?

We MAY have gone in The Star public house

The bridge of the River Ise is a Grade 2 listed building

Geddington 1

Late last year on our way to our narrowboat, we called in to the village of Geddington.
Here's the church (obviously!)

Shrewsbury

A while ago we had some business to conduct at Principality Building Society.
We thought we would go to our nearest branch rather than deal with it by post.
The nearest branch to Redbourn is...Shrewsbury.
As it happened, there was a £10 'go anywhere' deal on London Midland Trains so we went by rail.
Here's the rather grand station...

The library

Buildings opposite the library

Town square - Principality Building Society is on the right if you need to know

A really excellent wine merchant we found

Madeira - Last Days

A very wet start to one of our last days

How did they do this? (Carefully, perhaps?)

Then the sun shone...

Then the clouds came in...

Funchal airport

You can see the degree markings for the wing flaps - wonder what it should have been?

Madeira - Levada Walk 2

This is a very good walk we did from the HPB (Holiday Property Bond) site including a section along a levada, which are the irrigation channels running past the farms.
The levada is on the right.

One of the sluices which allow water to flow to the fields.
The bailiff allows each farm water around every 13 days in the summer - 'off peak' water is freely available.

Emerging from a tunnel which carried the levada through a mountain.

I guess this is a scarecrow?

Madeira Mandolin Orchestra

We went to their concert in "The English Church" one evening.
The youngest performer was six years old.

It was all very good - video clip(s) to follow next...don't go away!

Madeira - Camara de Lobos 4

It's very picturesque here so I've no problem with posting a few more photos...

Madeira - Camara de Lobos 3

This is the fish restaurant - Vila do Peixe - which I mentioned earlier

Blackboards listing the fish on offer with the prices per kilo

Pick the one you want and they slice, weigh and give you a price.
Don't know what they would say if you said, "No"!

Very nice place - thoroughly recommended

Madeira - Camara de Lobos 2

Looking back towards the village from the sea wall

One for the art gallery?
